| Citizens for Common Sense Government Mission: To form a community action group in Laredo to watch over elected officials making sure that they are servicing the public need and are providing for its citizens who elected them. CCSG is an ideal organization for concerned citizens, including students, to join together in numbers and demand from our public servants honesty, integrity and their commitment to education, jobs, public safety and a healthy environment, offering a superior quality of life and city amenities befitting the size of our community. Here in Laredo our elected officials are subjected to a great deal of lobbying from single interest groups, including businesses, and especially developers. These groups have a first amendment right to express their views and an obligation to their constituents to advocate their views. That is all well and good, but what is lacking is a powerful voice for ordinary tax paying citizens; a lobbying effort that clearly and unequivocally advocates solutions that are in the best interests of the totality of our community. CCSG is neither pro-business nor anti-business; we are neither pro-union nor anti-union; we are neither pro-developer nor anti-developer. We are simply pro-citizen who will demand a transparent and productive government. Those who serve for themselves and not the people will be replaced, and the only way we can do that is through sheer numbers. It is time now to take action and build a better community for all our citizens, and it's not going to happen if elected officials serve their interest above all others. Many of our key priorities as a community action group will require sustained effort over several years, and I pledge to you that those efforts cannot and will not be derailed by diversions in support of narrower or self interests, or sacrificed at the altar of the next election. Any U.S. Citizen of Webb County Texas can become a member of CCSG and students are welcome CCSG is a non-partisan organization which is a forum for Laredo Citizens who wish to voice their support for the Laredo Community Agenda and Values.
